Winchester Unitarian Youth Group returns from UUUM Service Project
Jessica Rubenstein, Director of Youth Ministries, reports that twenty-eight youth from the Winchester Unitarian Society Youth Group (WUSYG), spent their April vacation week working with eighteen youth from the Roxbury Youth Program (RYP). Together they staffed a camp for 1st – 5th graders at the Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry (UUUM).
The camp, called "Together We Can," was a joint project of Roxbury and Winchester youth, who have been working to plan the week-long event since December. Over fifty campers participated in the camp that included classes in art, science, music, and dance; a field trip to the Roger Williams Zoo in Rhode Island; and a carnival to end the wonderful week. Four congregations from the District provided lunches for the staff and campers (Follen, Wayland, Littleton and First Church Boston); four committees from the Winchester Unitarian Society provided dinners; and more than twenty-five adults from the Winchester Unitarian Society assisted throughout the week. It was a truly transformative and successful event!
